If you have a media file (such as audio or video) that you want to display on a Totara Learn page then this can be done by embedding the file.
Embedding audio and video
Totara Learn uses the VideoJS player, which means that files can be embedded in multiple ways.
Embedding via the media tool
You can embed a range of media content, including video and audio, into your Totara Learn course using the media tool. Go to the course you wish to add the resource to (this might be a link or a file) and follow these steps:
- On the course you wish to embed the media content, click the Turn editing on
- In the section you wish to add the media click the Add an activity or resource option to open up the selection menu.
- Select the Label option (you may need to scroll down) and then click Add.
- From the editor bar select the Media icon (a strip of film with the play icon).
- Select the right tab (Videoor Audio) and paste the URL of your media content, or use the Browsebutton to search your repositories or upload the file.
- Configure the settings to your preferences (including Advanced settingssuch as auto-playing and looping).
- Once you are done, click the Insert media
- Click the Save and return to course.
Embedding via a link/URL
If you have a link (or URL) to a media resources, such as a video on YouTube, then you can embed it into a course. Find the resource and then follow these steps:
- On the course you wish to embed the media content, click the Turn editing on
- In the section you wish to add the media click the Add an activity or resource option to open up the selection menu.
- Select the Label option (you may need to scroll down) and then click Add.
- Copy the media URL and then paste it into the label.
- Select the link and click the Hyperlinkicon (a chain link) to link the media to its source.
- Click the Save and return to course.
There is no advantage to using a link rather than just using the Totara Learn media tool (as shown in embedding via the media tool).
You can also add media to your course as a file resource or in a lesson popup.
Site administration settings
To enable the embedding of media files, an admin must enable the appropriate media players (see below) and the Multimedia plugins filter (unless you only want to allow embedding in File, URL, and Lesson modules).
An administrator can enable selected media players in Administration> Site administration > Plugins > Media players > Manage media players.
Available players
To use a player you will need to ensure it is enabled (the eye is open in the Enable column), you can change this by clicking the eye icon.
A default width and height for videos can be set by the administrator from the Manage media playerspage. Trainers adding videos via the Totara media button in the text editor may also specify a width and height.
VideoJS player settings
You can also configure various settings (listed below) for the VideoJS player by following these steps:
- Go toAdministration> Site administration > Plugins > Media players > VideoJS player.
(You can also go to Administration> Site administration > Plugins > Media players > Manage media players and then click Settings alongside the VideoJS player).
- Change the settings you wish to (as listed in the table below).
- Click the Save changes button to finish.
